A clear example of the old, “The use of reason and the exchange of ideas is all but impossible in this moment,” cognitive dissonance type split brought to you live and direct from Hot Air:
You’ve probably seen multiple instances on social media by now of Democrats and liberals calling for the impeachment of President Donald Trump despite the fact that he’s barely had time to organize the contents of his desk, say nothing of getting around to committing any high crimes or misdemeanors . . . We can probably leave aside for the moment the fact that there is essentially nothing which the Democrats could bring up in terms of charges to get the ball rolling right now.
Anyone who follows the (fake!) news has of course by now seen all the articles on the business conflicts, the patent awards, government leasing violation, and other various contraventions of the emoluments clause. Could this be the different languages and separate realities George Saunders tells us about via NPR?
Intellectually and emotionally weakened by years of steadily degraded public discourse, we are now two separate ideological countries, LeftLand and RightLand, speaking different languages, the lines between us down. Not only do our two subcountries reason differently; they draw upon non-intersecting data sets and access entirely different mythological systems.
Is there even a fix possible for this? If you look at someone and say the sky is blue, and they spit back the response that the sky is orange, what do you even say to that?
